Punching Reflex Balls

Work on timing without hauling out heavy gear. Reflex balls teach your eyes and hands to move together so your jab returns on line and your guard stays up, and you can choose a headband ball for quick tune ups or a freestanding flex stick for footwork and longer rounds from Shinobi, Viking and Punch. Setup is simple and the kit slips into a small pocket of your gym bag. Coaches slot them in between pad rounds or when others are on the heavy punching bags, and they work just as well for home practice. Clip the cord, set the length, and get to work.
Is a reflex ball only for boxers?
No. Anyone who wants faster reactions and cleaner returns can use one, including MMA and kickboxing athletes. They also make a solid warm up before heavier sessions.
Which is better for a beginner, a headband ball or a freestanding stick?
Start with a headband ball if you want something light and portable that you can use anywhere. Choose a freestanding stick if you’d like to move your feet around a target and train for longer blocks.
How do I keep the cord from tangling or the ball from smacking me?
Begin with a longer cord and a slower ball, keep your chin tucked, and touch the target with straight shots before adding speed. Reset the length if the ball crowds your face and keep your non-punching hand at your cheek.
